The winner will then go on to represent Galway in Waterford for the Ms Gay Ireland final.

In order to enter, all contestants must self identify as being gay women, be over 18 and willing to participate fully in the event. Each winner will represent the venue or association and is expected to take part in the ‘civic element’ of the competition.

Anyone who thinks they have what it takes to be Ms Gay Galway, can enter by logging or enter on the night.

After a relentless struggle with intensive science courses in high school, Phinit AKA Tonic discovered that his real passion lay in the Arts! Following on from that, be began his study of Communication Arts in UTCC and began to develop his skills in Radio and Television Production. Combining his talents and abilities in Club DJing, self taught since the age of 15 with his passion for electronic music, Tonic built a strong reputation in the club scene of his home city of Bangkok. His founding membership with the Pioneer Pro DJ Team in 2002 provided him with the opportunity to share his passion for music and his skills on the decks with local and international DJ’s.

His music specialty is mainly considered House but Disco & Classic anthems have always been thrown into his set due to his widely diverse of music taste and the variety of partygoers. With more than 8 years of experience in club DJ industry both resident and guest in some of the lavish clubs and bars in Bangkok and Ireland, Tonic is presently spinning for Eden, Outwest & The Stage Door including some other exclusive private parties & events. His travels bring him around the country from Galway to Cork, Limerick to Sligo & Leitrim to Mayo.

Northwest Pride 2010 launched this year between Thursday Aug 5 until Sunday Aug 6. Northwest Pride takes place with people from all over Ireland and as far away as Scotland coming along and this year we are offering a special welcome to young LGBTQ people between the ages of 13 and 23.

This year marks the 5th Northwest Pride. A copy of the Pride Brochure can be found on the website under events section.

Available free of charge in print on the first Friday of every second month, online at www.themagazine.ie and on air on Newstalk 106-108 FM from 7-9pm the first Saturday of every month.

THE HIV workshops at the George are being organised as part of THE magazine's HIV prevention campaign which was launched at The George on Irish AIDS Day. The workshops will run on the first Saturday of every month.

 The one hour workshops which will focus on HIV transmission routes and there will also be discussion on HIV education in the gay community today and how we should be approaching this issue. The workshops will be hosted by Derek Byrne, editor of THE magazine and lecturer in HIV Transmission and Treatment Options*. THE magazine HIV prevention campaign is an independent initiative.

 The Campaign will focus on the issues of Proximity and Responsibility with the clear message that gay men need to be aware of the presence of HIV in the gay community and take responsibility for their own sexual health choices. We believe that a new approach to HIV prevention in the gay community is needed especially at a time when the latest figures show an alarming increase in the numbers of diagnoses amongst gay men and MSM. It is also our intention to invite other speakers and professionals in this area to get involved.

 In relation to after care support. We will be encouraging people to avail of the excellent services that already exist but as a trained professional in this area, Derek will be able to deal with any situations which may arise at the workshops.

 The first workshop will focus on HIV transmission and the discussion will ask the question "Is HIV an important issue for young gay men today or does it belong in the past?"

 *Derek Byrne is a lecturer in HIV Transmission and Treatment Options on a number of Social Science courses, mainly for NUI Maynooth and UCD. He works as Education Co-ordinator for an organisation called Community Response, a community development programme which aims to help the South Inner City Area deal with problem drug use through empowering the local community.
